First infected tattoo. :(
So last Sunday I got some ink done on my calf. It is cheesy to most but to me it is probably my favorite tattoo because it is of a sign that my grandpa had on his shed that said "Vic's truck farm" that my uncle made for him. December 26, 2006 my grandpa died and a couple of years after, my uncle that made it for him died. So I took a picture last time I visited and had it done -- crooked writing and all.
It was pretty basic to look like a wood sign and it looked HOT after it was done. I went through my normal regiment that I have done over a dozen tattoos and 10 years of healing but knew something wasn't right as I still felt tender after the 4th day or so. Still scabby, I had to mow the lawn yesterday so I since it ached a little, I tossed on some antibiotic ointment and covered it to keep lawn clippings and critters out of the tattoo while I worked in the yard. When I showered, I took the gauze off and was surprised to see green and yellow goo in the gauze. YAY!
A nice thorough cleaning in some warm water and most of the regular scabbing is gone but there are some shading areas around the letters that used a different color ink. Those areas look infected and have puss coming out. Nice and deep too. The letters have since lost their color so I think it will have to be redone or at least touched up. Let's hope I keep my leg. It isn't too gnarly but just enough to stay nice and red 7 days after now and still ooze a little puss. I'm failrly sure it is a reaction to the pigment in the different ink which is a shame because I was really stoked about this tattoo.
Anyway...Figured I would tell my little story since I am bored and staring at my gross leg.
