Default chain removal/replacement

Hope this helps as well.. just trying to spread the information. For the record, the "I" stated herein is not myself, but another motorcycle enthusiast. The tools listed are not "all" needed but very helpful. the micrometer is a great aid, though for a thorough installation. Also, it is "recommended" to change the front and rear sprocket when changing the chain, but I'm not telling anyone what to do, i've done it both ways with no issues.. but I recommend inspection of the sprockets at a minimum. Just my .02

"Tool used:
Motion Pro Jumbo Tool

Micrometer

Dremel Tool
Safety Wire
(Chain puller - not necessary)

Section 6-84 through 6-87 of the manual
and the ability to read

So here is the stock master link.

I wanted to grind down one of the pins so it would be easier on the tool to push out.

Installed the Motion Pro Jumbo Chain Tool, with the pin extraction adapter.

Extracted the pin by screwing the inner threaded piece in.

Removed the original link, and staged the replacement chain in place to be safety wired to the origianl chain so that the chain can be rolled off and the new chain rolled on.

Wired together

Used the chain puller to pull (more like hold) the chain together to install the new master link.

New Master link and O=rings

Continued...

Used the press attachement to press the connector plate on and pressed until the the width was within tolerance (21.85 - 22.15mm).

That's better

Now set the tool up to stake the joint pin, using the tool adapter and measured to ensure it's within tolerance (5.45 - 5.85mm).

I have to change my chain. I got a chain from Kurt so all I need is a master link. Probably gonna try the screw on link. Tungue has used it for a long time and never had any issues with it.

I've heard good things about the screw type links as well, but I've never tried them. Good luck

haven't used it yet. From what was described, it screws in then is held by a locking o ring on the other side. Gonna try it, i'm all about things being as easy as possible as long as it's safe.
