Default Instrument cluster repair.... *I can't believe this actually worked*

Well I'm still pretty excited about this, mainly cuz I really wasn't sure whether it was gonna work or not, and it ended up working absolutely perfect!

Anyways.... here was the problem. For some time now my bottom button on my cluster (the one for resetting the trip odo and setting the clock) has been getting very picky... you'd have to push it several times to get it to reset. Kept getting worse and worse, until one day a couple weeks ago it just flat out would not reset at all. So I took the cluster out and find part of the switch to be broken. There is a little extension piece between the switch itself and the rubber part that you push, and that's the piece that was broken off so it wasn't actually pushing the switch.

I looked around everywhere for the switch and could not find one, even at Radio Shack, the n3rd capitol of the world.... nothing even close to what I needed. So I saw my last option being to hack a switch from another cluster, install it in my circuit board and hope for the best. Luckily Andie (compulady5) had her old cluster from her '07 600RR sitting around and she said I could use it as a donor (thanks again Andie!!), so I went out and met up with her for lunch and got the cluster, not sure whether the switches would be the same or not being a different model cluster and all. I get home and crack it open, and sure enough it's the exact same switches on the 600RR circuit board as those on my F4i circuit board... YES!!

So I go to work and get my n3rd supplies ready

Then I un-solidered my old switch and removed it from my circuit board

My old broken switch

I then removed both the switches from the 600RR cluster (I figured I'd screw at least one of them up in the process)

New 'good' switch... notice the difference in height

Then after a few creative ideas... finally got the new switch solid in place

Added a little bit of solider to each of the terminals to make sure of a good contact. I know my solidering isn't pretty (neither is my welding, lol), but hey it works!

Re-assembled the cluster into the case

Aaaannnnddd.... SUCCESS!!

I was really surprised... it worked 100% perfect on the first try! Nothing ever goes that easy, especially for stuff I usually suck at, lol. Now I can actually set my clock and reset my trip odo

Nice job. I don't think I would have tried that on my own.

It's the colorful thing in front in which you probably don't pay attention to when riding
