HOMESTEAD AIR RESERVE BASE, Fla.* After a 17 year absence, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will once again fly over the skies of Homestead*ARB.* The world famous jet fighter acrobatic team will headline the "Wing's Over Homestead" Air Show, Nov. 7 - 8, 2009, at Homestead Air Reserve Base.
Former Homestead ARB pilot and Palmetto Bay resident, Maj. Sean Gustafson, will return to the local area flying the No. 4 slot aircraft. Maj. Gustafson made history after being the first Air Force Reserve pilot chosen to fly with the Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team since its inception in 1953.
"We are excited the Thunderbirds have selected us for their 2009 season - we have not had an air show at Homestead since Hurricane Andrew and feel this is well overdue", said*Brig Gen*William Binger, 482nd Fighter Wing commander.
"Having the air show not only allows the public to come out and see two days of world class flying, it serves to thank the South Florida citizens and communities for
their continued support of the military and veterans",*Brig Gen*Binger added.
Joining the Thunderbirds will be a host of other aircraft, including everything from biplanes to supersonic jets to rocket cars. *Aerobatic and wing-walking routines will also be a part of the action.
Besides the performing aircraft, many other warbirds, classic and vintage aircraft, along with military vehicles and aviation-related items will be on static display for up-close viewing by the public.
Numerous food, beverage and memorabilia vendors will also be on hand to make the experience even more enjoyable for the public.
