PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - Port St. Lucie Police wrote more than 50 tickets, including one for $1,100, in the first of many traffic crackdowns.
Officers lined some of the busiest roads on the Treasure Coast Thursday. Port St. Lucie joined other agencies for what they called "Operation Sundown." The campaign is aimed at aggressive motorcyclists, but officers clocked more cars than bikes. The message to everyone is slow down. "By enforcing the speed limit, it keeps everybody on the road safe," says Officer Joe Byrne. "Not just the motorcyclists, but anybody traveling." Police plan more of these crackdowns for the summer. As for the $1,100 ticket, police say a biker popped a wheelie in the middle of U.S. 1. Police target speeders |West Palm Beach News, South Florida Breaking News, Forecast, Video from WPTV |
