+1 For max acceleration wait till you get close to redline before you upshift but its pointless to do that when you are cruising around trying to save gas.

Same here. Although when I first got my exhaust, I never left second gear cause I liked the way it sounds. All that was over after a few days when I saw my fuel mileage take a dip.
I have no "set RPM" as to when I change gears.

Well I certainly don't ride my bke to save on gas!!! When it's regular riding, I would "guess" that it's probably around 6K. When hauling ass, it's when I see the shift light come on

R1:
street is normally 6-9k
track is 9-12k
Ducati 996 and 955 (briefly), race: occasionally bounce limiter, especially when racing a twin against the 4 cylinder motherfuckers (one wishes for a 1098RS or 1198, or just get a Desmosidici!)

as long as you are moving, you shouldn't overheat at all, what temp is it at when you are moving/standing still?
