Forgery, Official Misconduct, Falsely Reporting Crime Among Charges

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Three Riviera Beach police officers have been arrested on separate charges following an investigation by the FBI.

Criminal charges were filed Thursday against Detective Lee Ann Schneider, Detective John Toombs and Sgt. Michael Dodson.


According to the state attorney's office, the charges range from forgery and official misconduct to using a firearm while under the influence.

Michael McAuliffe, state attorney for Palm Beach County, said Schneider forged Sgt. Pat Galligan's name on dozens of probable cause affidavits in felony cases. She is charged with forgery and official misconduct.

Toombs, a detective in the narcotics unit of the Riviera Beach Police Department, is accused of disclosing information in a homicide investigation to aid a suspect in avoiding arrest. He is charged with unlawful disclosure of confidential information and accessory after the fact.

The final arrest stems from a shooting at Dodson's Palm Beach Gardens home in October.


Dodson told Palm Beach Gardens police that two armed men broke into Dodson's home and shot him during an attempted burglary. But McAuliffe's office alleges that Dodson was drunk at the time and shot himself, making up the attempted burglary. He was charged with falsely reporting a crime, disorderly intoxication, using a firearm while under the influence and shooting within a building.
