Default Have to vent...

As many here know...I was laid off in June and then in August, I picked up a new job as a network engineer for a government contractor. When going through the motions to get hired, I was told that I would be "traveling for 2 weeks and home for 2 weeks and home most every weekend". Well, since my start date of August 24, I ended up in Tampa for 2 weeks and the got home on Tuesday of this week. When I got home, there was an e-mail to be in Salt Lake City TODAY and then in Montana tomorrow. Last night, I received an e-mail saying I would then go to Louisville, KY on the 28th.

That to me doesn't sound like being home for 2 weeks and having the weekends at home. So, to top things off, I never received my expense check. (Yeah...I have to pay for my travel out of MY pocket and then get reimbursed...Never had to do that) I ALSO only got 1 week of pay this week because my timecard was "late" because the people in DC who approve it did not approve it in time. My expense check JUST arrived today as an overnight delivery because again...the people in DC did not approve it in time. So, I had to go to my bank TODAY and deposit the money and then book a flight for tonight. I get to arrive in UT at midnight our time and be at work at 4am!
YAY!

I'm not looking for any "What should I do" answers out of this post. Just venting, ranting, etc. I got some of that out of my system earlier when I told them I QUIT and that October 2nd would be my last day....And then they talked me into staying. I'm sure their making a pretty penny off of me. Oh well.

It sucks Kris, but Im glad they talked you into keeping the job. do your best to hold on to it while you find something locally and then give them the boot.

It's like 2am EST and midnight here. I just got settled into my hotel room. BLAH!

Thanks for all of the feedback folks. I'm just sucking it up right now. I'll have a billion hours for this week so I guess that makes me feel better.

Kris, you're working for a govmint contractor, not the govmint itself, correct?
Having done that, it sucks working for a company that is being paid by the man. All kinds of regs, none of the benefits. I'll bet you don't have any kind of job security either. You are at the mercy of the contract.
Be sure you are saving any correspondence, including phone calls. Keep good records of your hours. If it hits the fan, you won't be able to claim anything that is not well documented.
Good luck on the job search!
