Default Brake Pad Change

Hey just wanted to see if anyone has changed the brake pads themselves before? Is this a hard process or the same as changing them on a car? I've seen some videos where they just take off the caliper and space the pistons apart and just replace the pads and reinstall the calipers. Then they just pump the brake lever and all done? Is there no need to bleed the lines or even open them up at that?

no bleeding involved. it's just as you described above. but i think you might want to crack open the MC just a bit. double check on that part.

be careful not to damange the pistons when you seperate them.

What would you recommend using to spread apart the pistons?

A piece of wood with a clamp so you don't damage the pistons.

How much should a shop charge for this kind of job? Im talking about a reasonably priced shop like extreme custom sportbikes not a dealership.

Yea BMS quoted me $40 for the brake pads for each side and $70 labor per caliper. Meaning the brake job would be $220. Which sounds extremely ridiculous.

Well It's Def a DIY job. If anyone needs help with this, just bring a 12 pack and ill help you do it. Well we can get the 12 after since it might be alittle hard to bring it on the bike.

Yeah, make sure you fix the bike first, then drink the 12. Those 12's are sometimes mind altering. LOL
